Chapecoense Real plane crash: Here's what we know about the Brazil football tragedy in Colombia

A charter plane carrying a Brazilian football team crashed in the mountains in Colombia late on Monday. Here's an update on everything that is known about the tragedy so far.
What happened?
A British Aerospace 146 short-haul plane operated by a Bolivian charter airline named LaMia, carrying 72 passengers and nine crew members, crashed in Colombia on Monday night while it was on its way to Medellin's international airport. The plane was also carrying members of Chapecoense Real, a Brazilian football club which was scheduled to take on Medellin's Atletico Nacional in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final on Wednesday.
How did it happen?
Aviation authorities said the aircraft declared an emergency at 10 pm on Monday (0300 GMT) due to an electrical failure. It is likely that the electrical failure, coupled with poor weather conditions and low visibility resulted in the crash.
The LAMIA airlines flight originated in Sao Paulo, Brazil and had made a stop in Santa Cruz, Bolivia before continuing on to Rionegro, a city near Medellin. The airport statement said, "The plane declared it had electrical failures." It went down about 50 kilometers (30 miles) from Medellin, Colombia's second largest city, in an area called Cerro Gordo.
Who are Chapecoense Real?
Chapecoense Real are a club from a small Brazilian city called Chapeco in southern Santa Catarina state.. They were founded in 1973, and have been in the lower tiers of Brazilian football since 1979. In 2012, the club was languishing in the third tier of Brazilian football, but they fought hard and returned to Brazil's top flight, Serie A, for the first time in 35 years. The club finished in 14th spot in the 2015 edition of the 20-team championship.
They also beat all odds to reach their first ever Copa Sudamericana finals by beating the one of Argentina's top clubs, San Lorenzo. What could have been the achievement from their wildest dreams, has now ended in tragedy. Nine team members did not travel to Colombia.
What is the status of rescue efforts?
Initially rescue efforts were delayed because low visibility and poor weather conditions made it impossible for rescue helicopters to reach the crash site. Land forces were mobilised, and the site was subsequently scoured for survivors. Colombian authorities also had a tough time clearing onlookers from the area.
Elkin Ospina, the mayor of the town of La Ceja near the crash site, said the mountainous terrain was some 3,300 meters (10,800 feet) above sea level and very difficult to access. Rescuers carrying stretchers had to hike for more than half and hour to reach the site. Ospina said authorities were on the scene and hospitals and medical centers were preparing to receive the injured.
Eventually, Colombian police reported that five survivors were rescued from the site, while the 76 remaining passengers were killed. General Jose Acevedo, head of police in the area surrounding Medellin, provided the information. Local radio reports also claim that one of the survivors who was rushed to the hospital has now died.
But the bad weather forced the search to be suspended in the early hours Tuesday. It was to resume at 6:00 am (1100 GMT). Colombia's civil aeronautics agency said it had a team at the airport in response to the crash.
One of the survivors was Alan Ruschel, a 27-year-old defender for the Brazilian team, the head of Colombia's civil aeronautics agency, Alfredo Bocanegra, told reporters. Radio Caracol said two other players -- Marcos Danilo Padilla and Jackson Follmann -- also survived and were taken to area hospitals, along with a flight attendant and a journalist.
What was the impact?
The South American football federation (CONMEBOL) issued a statement saying the Copa Sudamericana final has been put on hold.
Atletico Nacional, the club Chapecoense were scheduled to face also expressed their support during this tough time, tweeting "Atletico Nacional regrets deeply and is in solidarity with Chapecoense Real after the accident happened and is awaiting information from the authorities."
The Brazilian football confederation has released a statement saying it would wait for more information about the plane crash in Colombia before taking any action regarding local competitions in Brazil. There is one round left in the Brazilian league, which was won by Palmeiras last weekend. The final round will decide which teams will avoid relegation and which teams will secure spots in international competitions next season.
The second leg of the Brazilian Cup final is scheduled be played Wednesday in the southern city of Porto Alegre. Local club Gremio defeated Atletico Mineiro 3-1 in Belo Horizonte.
The players that didn't travel with the club were left distraught by the news:
Popular footballers also expressed their dismay at the situation and support for the club and the affected families:

One dead after 6.7 magnitude earthquake jolts Akto County in China

One dead after 6.7 magnitude earthquake jolts Akto County in China
Beijing, Nov 26: One person was killed after a powerful 6.7-magnitude earthquake rocked Akto County in the quake-prone Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, state media reported today. A villager died as a house collapsed due to the strong tremors that hit the Kizilsu Kirghiz Autonomous Prefecture last night. Six houses also were found cracked or collapsed, state run Xinhua news agency reported.
The local administration said the epicentre was located 10 km beneath the surface and was in the cold highland areas which are sparsely populated. No casualty was reported from the village closest to the epicentre. Strong tremors were also felt in neighbouring Kashgar Prefecture. Sections of the railway in southern Xinjiang have been temporarily closed.
The China Earthquake Administration has initiated emergency response measures and sent a team to the quake-hit area. An emergency response was also initiated by the regional seismological bureau. At the village near the epicentre, where about 80 households are located, damaged houses and dead livestock were found, but no person was injured, officials said.
The United States Geological Service measured the quake at 6.5 magnitude. In the last five years, 83 earthquakes of magnitude 4 or over have occurred within 200 km radius of the epicentre with the largest recorded on Dec 7, 2015 when a quake of magnitude 7.4 hit the neighbouring Tajikistan.

Ondo Election: INEC has enlisted Prof. Soremekun to rig poll – PDP Prof. Soremekun presided over the Edo state governorship election that saw Godwin Obaseki emerge as the Governor.

The Ondo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the nomination of Professor Kayode Soremekun as the Chief Returning Officer of the governorship election in the state.

Prof. Soremekun presided over the Edo state governorship election that saw Godwin Obaseki emerge as the Governor of the state.
The PDP also alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wants to use the same set of people who rigged the election in Edo to manipulate the results in Ondo.
The Ondo PDP spokesman, Ayo Fadaka said “We hereby warn INEC not to bring Soremekun and his unscrupulous gang to Ondo State. We emphasise that he is not the only Vice Chancellor in Nigeria and as such does not exclusively possess the skill to discharge that responsibility.
“He is not welcome here and INEC will only incur our wrath if it makes any attempt to impose him to superintend over our election considering the fact that we are rejecting this attempt to bring him here.
“We again declare that INEC is free to recruit any other person to serve as the Chief Returning Officer as we will certainly and vehemently refuse to allow Soremekun to compromise our election.
“We urge INEC to strive to maintain its integrity and not soil its reputation any further by using people of questionable characters to discharge sensitive roles in elections.
“Conclusively, we say no to Professor Soremekun to play any role in our election. We also wish to remind that in Ondo State we have a culture of vehement resistance to election manipulation, thus we warn stringently that we will refuse Soremekun’s appointment as our Chief Returning Officer.”
The Ekiti state Governor, Ayo Fayose, while  campaigning with Eritayo Jegde, the Ondo PDP guber candidate, said the party will resist all attempts to rig the November 26, 2016 governorship election.

No short dresses allowed at Ghana Movie Awards – Organizer

You can purchase your own ticket or get an invitation; you can drive your own car to the venue or get a ‘lift’ – but you cannot wear whatever pleases you to the forthcoming 7th edition of the Ghana Movie Awards , therefore, actors and patrons who intend to go slay the red carpet should get the memo.

One of the apparels patrons cannot wear to the Awards is short dress and this directive was communicated by the organizer of the event, Fred Nuamah, as he told KMJ on ‘Daybreak Hitz’ on Hitz FM and monitored by www.entertainmentgh.com.

“The prescribed attire for the awards is tuxedo or black tie for the men and evening/dinner gown for the ladies. No short dresses will be allowed,” he pointed out.

He also stated that, this year’s edition, which will be held at the Kempinski Hotel, will not accommodate a large number of patrons and very limited tickets will be put out on sale.

Commenting on the number of movies that were submitted, the CEO of the Awards revealed that, over 500 films were submitted, with many coming from the Northern and Ashanti Regions.

On the state of the movie industry, Mr. Nuamah expressed that, the film industry is not dying as being asserted by some industry players and movie followers.

“The industry is not dying. The filmmakers are working. The issue is that, movies are not being released on DVDs anymore. This is happening in Hollywood too. They are sent to IROKO and Netflix and others,” he explained.

The 7th edition of the Ghana Movie Awards is on December 4, 2016 and will be telecast live on DSTv and other local channels

Chris Brown Gushes Over Fans Of ‘All Different Races’ After AMA Win

Chris Brown came up a big winner at the 2016 AMAs Nov. 20, and while he wasn’t there to accept his award in person, he had a very special message for his fans via Instagram. We’ve got his inspiring words for the members of Team Breezy.
What a guy! Chris Brown, 27, came away a big winner at the 2016 AMAs, and he immediately took to his Instagram to thank his legion of fans. “Hey guys, Team Breezy, we done it again. I can’t thank you enough,” after his big AMAs win as Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist. “I appreciate all the support I’ve been getting from you guys. Parents, kids, all different types of races, that’s the one thing that can bring us together is music,” he told the camera with a heartfelt expression. The awards are voted on by the fans, so he was particularly appreciative about everyone that took the time to cast a ballot in his name in the incredibly competitive category, that included The Weeknd, 26, and Bryson Tiller, 23. “I’m not trying to give you all a speech, I’m just thankful and I appreciate you even one, nominating me at the AMAs, and two, for the fans actually getting to voice their vote. This isn’t politics, so I’m just thanking you for the music.”
Breezy wasn’t totally done with his message though, as he had a sidebar for his fans. “In real life us as a community, us as a human race, need to come together and support each other just like we support these awards. We need to support our elections, we need to support things that go on, that have a direct effect on us as people. So I just want to thank you all.” Wow, Chris is really feeling the love after his big win! We definitely prefer this softer side of Breezy and it’s nice to see him be so thankful and gracious.

Don’t Assume the Worst – Obama Says About Trump

United States President, Barack Obama has surprisingly come to the defense of President-Elect, Donald Trump and has urged the World to give Trump time rather than assuming the worst.
The President said this while speaking to Latin Americans at the end of an international farewell tour that included visits to Greece and Germany.
“My main message to you … and the message I delivered in Europe is don’t just assume the worst,” Obama told a group of young people during a question-and-answer session in Peru on Saturday.”
“Wait until the administration is in place, it’s actually putting its policies together, and then you can make your judgments as to whether or not it’s consistent with the international community’s interest in living in peace and prosperity together.”
“It will be important for everybody around the world to not make immediate judgments but give this new president-elect a chance to put their team together, to examine the issues, to determine what their policies will be, because as I’ve always said, how you campaign isn’t always the same as how you govern.”

Twitter turns on TB Joshua after Prophesy Of Hillary Clinton Win

About 48hrs ago, a post went viral about a Nigerian Prophet who said he saw Clinton win. TB Joshua, the General Overseer of Synagogue church of All Nations, on live tv during his sunday service said he saw the winner of the U.S Presidential Election and that it would be a woman, but only a slight “narrow win”.
This is a video showing the prophecy on live tv.

After that prophecy, Nigeria and the world took to that, Today as we look at the Presidential results, it’s clearly the opposite of what TB Joshua prophesied. Angry Nigerians and Africans took a huge fight and a court of insults to twitter and facebook to confront the man of God.
Here are some tweets we got from twitter:
